What is a bichectomy?
Bichectomy, also known as cheek surgery, is an aesthetic operation that many women and men today have it performed to have cheekbones that are more prominent and a thinner facial line. Bichectomy operation is a procedure that is often preferred by people who are in their ideal weight but look overweight due to the fat ratio in their facial structure, or people with U face type.
Although Hollywood cheek and bichectomy are often confused, these two procedures are different from each other. While the bichectomy operation is applied only to the cheeks, various procedures are applied to the cheekbones and chin area within te scope of the Hollywood cheek aesthetics procedure as well. In addition, in Hollywood cheek aesthetics, more fat is removed from the cheek area compared to bichectomy.
Bichectomy is recommended for men and women at normal weight who are older than 18 years of age. Bichectomy is not recommended for people who are obese or overweight and people over the age of 45. However, whether the person has suitable features for bichectomy surgery is decided by the physician based on the result of some tests.
Things to Pay Attention before Bichectomy Surgery
In order to minimize the risk of infection in bichectomy surgery, oral cleaning before the surgery is extremely important. If the patient who will be undergo the surgery is using aspirin or a blood thinner, these drugs should be discontinued under the supervision of a physician. For a faster recovery process, the patient should quit smoking and alcohol one week in advance.
How is a Bichectomy Performed?
Bichectomy surgery performed under local anesthesia takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes. First, an incision of approximately 1 cm is made on the inside of the cheek. To obtain a natural appearance, bichat bags (fat tissue) are removed with forceps. After the bichat bags are removed, the cut area is sutured. After the procedure is applied to both cheeks, the patient is bandaged and the operation is completed. The patient who has bichectomy operation is discharged on the same day.
Things to Pay Attention after Bichectomy Surgery?
Keeping the patient bandaged for at least two hours after bichectomy surgery will minimize bruising. It is perfectly normal for the patient to have swelling on the face after the surgery. Although the recovery period of each patient differs, in general, recovery is observed in patients within 2 weeks. It is recommended that the patient who has a bichectomy operation consume soft foods and cold drinks for the first three days. In addition, the patient should avoid sunlight.
