What is Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Aesthetics)?

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid aesthetics, is a procedure applied to both the lower and upper parts of the eye. This process helps to eliminate the sagging skin look, and the tissues around the eyes are stretched  by removing excess muscle tissue. This procedure, performed by plastic surgeons and specialists, is known as one of the surgical interventions.

Blepharoplasty is a procedure that anyone who has sagging around the eyes due to genetic factors, aging and wrinkles can have. This operation performed on the tissues around the eyes helps to remove the excess skin and create a more tight skin structure without damaging the tissues in the eye. After blepharoplasty procedure, the patient has a younger skin appearance.

Things To Pay Attention Before Blepharoplasty Surgery?

In order to avoid any possible problems during blepharoplasty surgery, drugs such as aspirin and antibiotics should be discontinued at least 15 days before the operation.  In order to accelerate the effect of the surgery and to achieve more permanent results, use of harmful substances such as alcohol and cigarettes should be stopped at least 2 to 3 weeks before the operation. All kinds of supplement drugs or vitamins should be avoided. 

How Is Blepharoplasty Surgery Performed?

Blepharoplasty surgery is performed by giving local anesthesia. After the upper eyelid is anesthetized with local anesthesia, some of the underlying muscle is removed along with the excess skin. In the lower eyelid, the muscle and skin are lifted  in the same way by applying local anesthesia. 

Things to Pay Attention after Blepharoplasty Surgery

Patients who have undergone blepharoplasty surgery complete the healing process in approximately 10 to 14 days. There are some issues that patients should pay attention to after surgery. Protecting the eye area for a certain period is one of the most important issue in this sense. Eye area should be protected from direct sunlight, and black glasses should be worn when going out. At the same time, the use of chemicals or heavy make up products should be avoided. Moisturizing creams suitable for patient’s skin type should be used. Make-up or heavy mask application should not be applied around the eyes for a while.
